Memory Lane Tribute - Bombardier APM C801 / Adtranz ECX-100
26 Years ago, on the 6th November 1999, at 1322hrs, the launch of the Singapore’s first Light Rail Transit system in Bukit Panjang, known as Singapore Light Rail Transit (SLRT) at the time commenced its official launch party. Originally meant to commence at 1:30pm, the programme made its debut early following large crowds. It is none other than the ECX-100 First generation trains who supported and kickstarted this historical journey to be the nation’s first LRT system. Over the past 26 years these trains have carried commuters daily throughout the system alone, before being accompanied by their sleek, modernised variant, the C801As for the next 11 years and for a brief moment together with their successors, the C801Bs. With SMRT’s goal to retire the C801s by September this year, which as a result saw the last surviving set, 102/111 to make its last run on the morning of the 12th of September 2025, these trains never made it for their 26th anniversary. This video features a short tribute showcasing a compilation of the Pioneer fleet of the Bukit Panjang Light Rail Transit, or BPLRT in short that have been in revenue service for almost 26 Years between November 1999 to September 2025. Originally known as the ECX-100 manufactured by Adtranz, it was later acquired by Bombardier, giving the fleet a new name that we all know most as the Bombardier Innovia “C801”. With the last C801 officially off the tracks for good, let us take a trip down memory lane to the days where these 1st generation trains used to roam through the “rollercoaster” viaducts flying through from the inner sub-zones of Bukit Panjang to Choa Chu Kang with the original Juanita Melson announcements which alongside the C801s were phased out from all BPLRT trains. Although stations still use them, it is unclear if they might be replaced as well. As way to represent the series number 801, the film length was cut to 8 minutes and 1 second. Though I have more footages unused, I am saving them for a future project I hope to release in years time. This video was also released at the exact date and time of the launch of the commemorative launch of the system. Footages featured in this compilation were recorded between 2024-2025. Majority of the footages however still date to 2025, as I made the wise decision to focus heavily on them. Thank you for viewing!
