LUMBINI, NEPAL: We're not particularly religious people, but faith is such a huge part of the culture in this part of the world that we really couldn't miss visiting Lumbini - considered to be birthplace of Buddha. We took a gruelling 9 hour bus journey from Pokhara and arrived here in the south of Nepal, essentially right on the border with India, to what is considered one of the most important pilgrimage sites for Buddhists. Here, you will find the Maya Devi temple, which contains the Birth Stone - a stone slab marking the exact spot on which Prince Siddhartha Guatama was born.
