"Fats" Waller: Radio Broadcasts of 1938 (NBC, BBC & CBS Studio Broadcasts)
Take a dive into the early heyday of Thomas "Fats" Waller & his Rhythm through the number of live radio broadcasts ran in 1938. (Excluding his Yacht Club remotes, as both had been dedicated to their own video!) Rising to national (and soon overseas) fame as America's hottest swing & stride pianist, Waller with his 'all-star' band began appearing in households all across the nation through radio appearances under NBC, CBS, BBC & much more! During his 1938 tour to the United Kingdom, Waller had even appeared on live television for the first time through BBC's 'Starlight'. But hey, don't take it from me! Bend a ear and take it from radio's "Harmful Little Armful" himself! [Side Note: All recordings have been pitched to be as audible as can be without the distortion of sound. Thus, it may take more volume than usual on the viewers end to hear clearly.] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Timestamps: NBC Broadcast, July 12th, 1938 00:00 - Ain't Misbehavin' (Opening) 00:45 - The Joint Is Jumpin' 03:45 - Inside (This Heart of Mine) 06:48 - I Had To Do It 09:05 - E Flat Blues 11:53 - Honeysuckle Rose 13:27 - Hold My Hand (Closing) NBC Broadcast, July 16th, 1938 14:46 - Ain't Misbehavin' (Opening) 15:12 - Hold My Hand 17:35 - Stop Beatin' Around the Mulberry Bush 20:21 - What's the Matter With You? 22:45 - Hallelujah 24:14 - What's Your Name 27:36 - Hold My Hand (Closing) NBC & BBC Joint Broadcast, September 26th, 1938 28:41 - Ain't Misbehavin' (Opening) 29:35 - Marie 31:11 - I Can't Give You Anything But Love [w/ Adelaide Hall] 34:22 - Handful of Keys 36:17 - That Old Feeling [w/ Adelaide Hall] 39:51 - Flat Foot Floogie [w/ Adelaide Hall] 42:33 - Ain't Misbehavin' (Closing) CBS: "This Is New York" Ep. 1, December 11th, 1938 43:49 - Introduction 44:37 - Talk About Harlem 46:28 - The Joint Is Jumpin' [w/ Andy Razaf] 48:09 - Summertime 49:21 - Stompin' At The Savoy [w/ Andy Razaf] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thomas "Fats" Waller performing live with his "Rhythm" (band) on radio broadcasts hosted by the National Broadcasting Corporation, British Broadcasting Corporation & Columbia Broadcasting Corporation on various dates from 1938.
