কোলকাতার সাধের হলুদ ট্যাক্সি-অ্যাম্বাসেডর | Calcutta's iconic yellow taxis- The Hindustan Ambassador

প্রথম মেড ইন ইন্ডিয়া গাড়ি অ্যাম্বাসেডর-এর কারখানা ছিলো পশ্চিমবঙ্গের হিন্দমোটরে আর সেই কারখানাকে ঘিরে সেখানে গড়ে উঠেছিলো জমজমাট এক উপনগরী। অথচ আজ হিন্দুস্তান মোটোর্সের সেই কারখানা দেখলে বিশ্বাস করতে অসুবিধা হবে যে এখানেই একসময় তৈরি হতো ভারতের সবথেকে জনপ্রিয় গাড়ি, আমাদের সাধের অ্যাম্বাসেডর। ২০১৪ সালে এই কারখানার দরজা বন্ধ হয়ে যায়; বন্ধ হয়ে যায় অ্যাম্বাসেডর-এর প্রোডাকশান। কিন্তু এরকম তো হওয়ার কথা ছিলো না! একসময় হিন্দমোটোরের যে কারখানায় দিনে ১২৫টা গাড়ি এসেম্বেল করা হত; সেই কারখানার দরজায় কেন তালা পড়ে গেল? সেই উত্তরের খোঁজেই আজ আমাদের পর্ব – “সাধের হলুদ ট্যাক্সি অ্যাম্বাসেডর।“ .................. Hindustan Motors had one of the biggest factories for assembling the first made in India car, Ambassador at West Bengal’s Hindmotor. The factory had a strength of 23,000 workers. During the 80s they could assemble 125 cars a day; such was the demand of ambassadors in India. However, today the factory stands as an abandoned building. Hindustan Motors closed the doors of this factory in 2014. But why? Even after being one of the most prestigious cars of India; why did Hindustan Motors stop the production of ambassadors?
