Four U.S. service members killed in the Middle East returned to American soil on July 22 for a dignified transfer at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware. President Trump attended the ceremony, met privately with the families of the fallen soldiers, and vowed to avenge their deaths. The fallen military members were identified as First Lieutenant Tyler Feehan, Private Isabella Gonzales, Sergeant Michael Swinton, and Sergeant Angel Ramper-Sad. The deaths bring the conflict's total American military fatalities to 18 service members. In response, President Trump announced an escalation strategy, threatening that any future Iranian targeting of ships in the Strait of Hormuz will prompt U.S. military strikes against bridges or power plants, including targets within Tehran. Retired Air Force Brigadier General John Teichert supported the stance, stating that strength and strikes against the heart of the regime are necessary to deter Tehran. Meanwhile, defense officials appeared on Capitol Hill requesting an additional $67 billion from Congress to restock weapons and cover fiscal year budget shortfalls. Democrats, including Senator Elizabeth Warren, announced plans to block further military funding until the administration provides answers and ends the war. Iranian officials responded to U.S. threats by warning that if Iran cannot sell oil, no other nation will, triggering a rapid rise in global oil prices.
