This is why I could walk around in the city center one day and take the cable car up to ski on the mountain right next to it the following day. Innsbruck is the capital of the federal state of Tyrol and often referred to as the capital of the Alps. What might sound a bit exaggerated at first is actually quite accurate: due to the good infrastructure you get into the alpine terrain within 20 minutes from the city center to hike, climb or ski.
