Ruraq Maki - Asociación de artesanía textil Los Laureles

Los Laureles Textile Craft Association In the district of Huamachuco, Sánchez Carrión province, in La Libertad region, there is a long textile tradition dating back to pre-Hispanic times. The weavers of the Los Laureles Textile Craft Association are heirs to this tradition. Led by master weaver Lucila Sifuentes, they keep alive the knowledge associated with processing sheep's wool and the textile techniques of weaving on looms and crochet. Blankets, sashes, and bags are the most characteristic garments of this textile tradition, which is characterized by its design that combines pre-Hispanic motifs of stripes, bands, squares, checks, and coconuts with more Western-influenced motifs of flowers, birds, and shields. #crafts #traditionalart #huamachuco #peru Production: Directorate of Intangible Heritage of the Ministry of Culture of Peru Directed by: David Salamanca
