JCB launches its new dual drive backhoe loader with optional 2D grade control from Leica Geosystems

Peter Haddock spoke to Georgina Williams aka JCB Digger Girl, about the new features. She also explained how the Leica Geosystems 2D laser grading setup on the machine worked to deliver 10mm accuracy using a centralised machine-mounted indicator. And when she did her own test, this reduced grading time by 25%, using less fuel and less stone. In this video, you will also see Nick Drew, aka The Diggerman Blogger, testing the dual drive function. Georgina: “Dual drive functionality comes as standard with our 3CX pro and 4CX pro models, which also benefit from servo controls. “And having tested the machine, this function is a real game changer as it will allow the operator to reposition the machine while facing the excavator without turning the seat to the front facing position.” Additional features on the new generation backhoe include: · Single loader lever to reduce operator effort · Revised direction control for quicker and easier use · Return to grade function for improved performance · Upgraded quickhitch with wider fork carriage and in-cab can camera system to support easier lifting. Georgina: “For operators, key changes include a roller switch on the left-hand servo lever, which controls the steering, while the right-hand lever has a forward-reverse selection switch. “The two pedals in front of the operator are used to control the throttle and the brake system.” JCB has also added a 7” monitor positioned at the rear of the machine next to the side console. This provides a wide-angle view to the front of the machine, while facing to the rear, thanks to a bird’s eye camera positioned on top of the cab.
