TEDxRedondoBeach - Jeff Weber - The Evolution of Antiquarian Bookselling
Jeff Weber was raised in an academic family. His father was Director of Libraries at Stanford University. His grandfather was both an English professor and the first rare book librarian at Colby College in Waterville, Maine. His education was from UCLA, with a BA in history of the ancient Middle East, and a Master of Library Science from Indiana University. He worked for Zeitlin & Ver Brugge Booksellers, Los Angeles. Jake Zeitlin, the owner, was the doyen of American antiquarian booksellers. Many young booksellers began their businesses as a result of working for Zeitlin. He started his business, Jeff Weber Rare Books, in 1986 and continues in this field today. He specializes in the history of science, medicine, California, bibliography, fine printing, book arts and fore-edge paintings. He issues traditional monthly catalogues and works primarily by mail order. He has lectured widely and written two books, The Fore-edge Paintings of John T. Beer and An Annotated Dictionary of Fore-edge Painting Arts & Binders. About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)
