And what was its main objective? To be the car of the average European family, that is, versatile, spacious enough, economical to run, and suitable for getting around the city but also for going on vacation. The new Scenic maintains that family-friendly approach, although the well-known rejection of the minivan format has led it to incorporate a two-body body into its design that bears a strong resemblance to a gigantic compact. Obligatory gigantism, on the other hand, to make room for the bulky batteries hidden in its underbody. The idea is for a larger Megane with longer legs that can do everything as a single car. An ambition that, to a certain extent, covers the typical use of the combustion-powered Austral as well. A well-rounded product with a competitive price, whose problems have to do, if anything, with energy efficiency on the highway and with some specific details to be polished, which we explore in the video. Ultimately, a very well-executed product that, if the European market eventually embraces electric vehicles, should give Renault a competitive advantage "by getting there first." But will it find demand? Or has it been born too early?
