How to Divide Root-bound Potted Bamboo

When bamboo is root-bound, it won't receive the necessary water and nutrients. Root-bound running bamboo can escape easily. Instead of letting it escape and grow into your neighbor's yard, divide and transplant it to give it space. In the Northern Hemisphere, the best time to divide bamboo is in the first quarter of the year, when it is dormant. Never divide the bamboo when it's shooting.
