How it works ? The Cotton Mill !
In this video we visit the Queen street Cotton mill in Burnley. The mill is a working museum. We look at all aspects of the mill and discover how it works. The mill opened in 1895 and was a cotton mill it produced Calico. We start at the boiler house and see the two Lancashire boilers. One of which is burning coal. The mill was steam driven up to 1982. We then go and look at the mill engine its a 500 horsepower steam driven mill engine. We get to talk to the engineer in charge of the engine. We also talk to one of the mill tour guides who is a historian and gain valuable insight into this Lancashire cotton mill. We also have drone footage of the mill chimney. Finally we look in the weaving shed which is full of looms and we get to see the drive mechanism in action. The weaving shed is unique as its the only working steam driven weaving shed in the world.
