Plenary #4: Immigration and the Call to Justice in Jesuit Higher Education
This plenary will explore key aspects of immigration, and the migration of peoples more broadly, considering the call of the Universal Apostolic Preferences and the role of Jesuit higher education in this critical area. The plenary is introduced by Jennifer Woolard, Professor and Chair of Psychology, and adjunct professor of Law. The panel will be moderated by Genevieve Negrón-Gonzales, Associate Professor of Leadership Studies, University of San Francisco. The conversation includes: José Cabrera, Director of Education and Advocacy for Migration, Ignatian Solidarity Network Joan Rosenhauer, Executive Director, Jesuit Refugee Service Joanna Williams, Executive Director, Kino Border Initiative The panelists represent three Jesuit works, each having its unique lens which overlaps with a shared Jesuit Spirituality and Jesuit Mission. The discussion includes stories from each organization of the lived realities of their clients and those they accompany. The stories illustrate and help us think about how important the work of accompaniment and immigrant justice is. Additionally, the panelists contextualize their work at this moment in time while facing a global pandemic and a divisive political climate.
