The History Of The Disused McClure Street Level Crossing, Maryborough, Victoria
We take a trip down memory lane as we look back at the history of the McClure Street level crossing in Maryborough of when it was first installed etc. It also includes the footage and photos that I have taken over the last two years. Sadly the crossing infrastructure and train signal mast were removed by VLine on the 7th of September 2020. Very little remains of the crossing now. This crossing was a flashing light setup and had a total of two signals, which were located on the north eastern and south western sides of the crossing. There is one track going through this crossing which is broad gauge. This crossing was maintained by V/Line The crossing equipment consisted of: A McKenzie And Holland aluminium teardrop bell on the north eastern signal. This bell was recycled from another crossing as teardrop bells had stopped being made in the 1970’s. Westinghouse crossarms Marked Westinghouse incandescent lights Unmarked bases Level crossing ahead signs with an illustration of a crossing signal. These signs are still there today. An unlocked relay case for the crossing which had inspection papers, flasher relays, a voltage system, a crossing inspection notebook, a red flag and telephone and flasher test buttons. The relay box still had power buzzing away, but was disconnected to prevent the crossing been turned on. The relay box went through vandalism in March 2020 where wiring parts were smashed. The telephone and flasher test buttons were removed as well as the crossing inspection notebook. The flag however was on the ground at the time I visited. The relay case was then locked by June 2020 when TheRailRanger VTMG visited. An unlocked relay case for the train signal. It was then locked by November 2018 when Applehead137 visited and the signal lights were removed.
