We visited America's "WORST" national park: They were wrong!

Is Congaree National Park really the worst National Park in America? After reading countless 1-star reviews calling it "boring," "just a swamp," and "not worth the trip," we headed to South Carolina to find out for ourselves. What we discovered surprised us. Most visitors stay on the boardwalk and leave thinking they've seen the park. But once we got out on the water, Congaree transformed into something completely different. Towering old-growth trees, peaceful waterways, unexpected wildlife encounters (including TWO snakes!), and a side of the park that many visitors never experience. As part of our mission to visit 100 National Parks before Roy turns 60 in November 2028, we're learning an important lesson: sometimes the places with the worst reviews end up teaching us the most. In a world where we're constantly told to wait until retirement to travel, we're choosing to explore now—while we still can. For us, travel isn't just about checking parks off a list. It's about protecting our mental health, creating memories together, and discovering that some of the most rewarding places require a little extra effort to appreciate.
