What really is a ‘PIECE of EIGHT’?

A piece of eight is an iconic silver coin from the days of the pirates (they were loved by pirates!) Here is one from the 17th century owned by coin dealer Bill from Sims Vintage Antiques Centre in Warwickshire, England. It’s in fine condition, although it looks very rubbed…but this is just the way they were minted. Most were worse than this! It’s the weight of silver that is the most important thing.
