HISTORIA DE LA GUERRA CIVIL ESPAÑOLA 36. PARACUELLOS

We address one of the most complex, painful, and controversial episodes of the Republican rearguard: the Paracuellos del Jarama massacres and the repressive process that unfolded in Madrid during the most critical months of 1936. The video analyzes the collapse of public order after the partial failure of the coup, the emergence of the chekas (secret police prisons), the revolutionary violence in the capital, the massacres of prisoners from Madrid's jails, and the role played by the Madrid Defense Council, the Unified Socialist Youth (JSU), the Communist Party, Soviet advisors, and figures such as Santiago Carrillo, Segundo Serrano Poncela, José Cazorla, Mikhail Koltsov, Iosif Grigulévich, and Melchor Rodríguez. Throughout the episode, primary sources and contemporary testimonies are used, with particular attention to the General Cause (Causa General), the denunciations of the Norwegian diplomat Félix Schlayer, international testimonies, and the studies of historians such as Paul Preston, Juan Avilés Farré, Pablo Gil Vico, José Luis Ledesma, and other authors who have investigated political violence in the Civil War. The aim is not to perpetuate myths, deny responsibility, or use history as a partisan weapon, but rather to rigorously analyze how the rule of law collapsed, how the repressive apparatuses operated in the Republican rearguard, and what the true scope of the Paracuellos massacres was. A significant portion of the episode is also dedicated to the figure of Melchor Rodríguez García, the anarchist known as "the Red Angel," whose intervention was crucial in halting the mass executions and saving the lives of numerous prisoners.
