Giacomo Rondinella - CANTAVA NAPOLI
#cantavanapoli #salvatorearchitravo #giacomorondinella Salvatore Architravo presents CANTAVA NAPOLI. Today, Neapolitan song and "singing in Neapolitan" see performers and singers who bring this cultural heritage to Italy and the world in various forms. But who were these singers in the last century? With this column, we will attempt to discover and rediscover some of the 20th-century Neapolitan singers. A difficult task, given the times... but we'll try anyway. We'll talk about some of the protagonists of the glorious Piedigrotta Auditions and the Naples Festivals afterward. Singers known thanks to copielle and 78 rpm records, all the way to national radio and television programs. For example, the internet of the time. We'll focus on the musical era from 1900 to 1965. Why this time frame? Because there were no substantial musical recordings before 1900, while since 1965, Neapolitan song has lost a sort of continuity, perhaps thanks to commercial and recording globalization. A series of 45 short monographic episodes featuring forty-five singers who were part of this era, regardless of importance or publicity. Some became leaders, some retired during their careers, some endured with their artistic identity, some changed musical genre, some are still honored today, some have been forgotten, some died young, and some (very few) are still active today. These episodes are conceived with the idea (and hope) of serving as a "starting point" for researching the internet and books for further information on the singers. It's not intended to "listen to the song" but to rediscover the interpretation of the era. Listen to the original forms of songs born in the last century, before the loss of personality and influence—sometimes bourgeois, sometimes popular—that diverted the voices of the first interpreters of the great classics of Neapolitan song towards other forms, more comprehensible to the era in which they were listened to. Memory will save us from standardization...I think! Thanks for reading and enjoy.
