Gwrach y Rhibyn: The Welsh Banshee | Pennard Castle, Gower | Ghosts & Folklore of Wales
Deep in the misty ruins of Pennard Castle on the Gower Peninsula lies one of Wales' most chilling legends: the Gwrach y Rhibyn - the hag of the mist/ witch of the night, often described as the Welsh equivalent of a banshee. While filming for Paranormal Unpacked with Steve Balsamo, Ant Jones and the team, plus our special guests Gwilym Games and Gregg Stockdale, we explored the castle ruins and the folklore surrounding this mysterious figure. The Gwrach y Rhibyn is said to be a terrifying hag-like spirit, with claws and talons, whose appearance was believed to foretell death. But does this figure from Welsh folklore really attacks people who spend the night in Pennard Castle? As we explored the ruins, we also discovered the remains of the medieval village that once stood nearby, including the old church ruins Be sure to check out the Paranormal Unpacked channel for the main video in which Gregg talks about his ghostly experiences at the castle one Halloween night, and other ghosts, legends and hidden folklore of Wales.
