Misreading Rillera's Lamb of the Free? | My Response to @SeanMcDowell and William Lane Craig

I have decided to respond to ‪@SeanMcDowell‬ and William Lane Craig for two reasons: 1) Their review of Rillera's book is highly skewed and seriously mischaracterizes some of Rillera's core arguments. 2) The topic of sacrifice and atonement is a passion of mine, and I think Rillera has done a good job of presenting it to a wider audience (our substantive disagreements aside). I think it is possible (and indeed necessary) to decouple substitution (to say nothing of *penal substitution*) from ritual sacrifice and still maintain a robust doctrine of the atonement. In fact, our doctrine of atonement is even better, even more beautiful, when we take the dynamics of ritual sacrifice seriously.
