More than a fifth of Europe is at risk of experiencing a drought this summer. Parts of Spain and southern France are already experiencing water shortages, with farmers expecting the worst yield in decades. The situation is especially serious as it follows years of consecutive drought which have depleted groundwater reserves. The average temperature in the Mediterranean region is now 1.5 degrees higher than it was 150 years ago - that's in line with the forecasts scientists have made about how climate change will impact the region.
