Villa de Agaete, August 5, 2024 - The Agaete Town Council celebrated this Sunday, August 4th, the annual Las Nieves Festival 2024, with the participation of thousands of people from the municipality, the island, and other corners of the world. The festivities began at 5:00 a.m. with the celebration of the Diana, on the main façade of the Town Hall, as a prelude to the Descent of La Rama. Then, at 10:00 a.m., one of the most anticipated moments took place from the side of the Parish of La Concepción: the Descent of the Branch. Thousands of devotees offered their branches to the Virgin of Nuestra Señora de las Nieves after the procession to the shrine to the rhythm of music. Finally, at 10:00 p.m., the Retreta took place at the same location, bringing the day to a close and ending with fireworks in the Old Town. The mayor of Agaete, Jesús González, praised the large turnout on the most important day of the festivities, "a date when all eyes are focused on our municipality and when residents from all corners come to enjoy this experience, considered of national tourist interest for its cultural, heritage, and historical significance." He also thanked the efforts of all those involved in organizing each of these ceremonies. Likewise, Candy Mendoza Saavedra, First Deputy Mayor and Councilor for Historical Heritage, Culture, and Festivals, emphasized that once again, the Diana, Rama, and Retreta celebrations have transcended the municipality's boundaries, bringing together thousands of residents and tourists for Agaete's most traditional celebrations. "These festivals represent one of the most anticipated moments of the year and are an important part of the identity and history of this town, and we wanted to convey this through our work," the councilor added. From the City Council, we are grateful for the wide participation and commitment shown by the population to the festivities, as well as the tireless work of the organizers, the Local Police and other security forces, the numerous volunteers, and the cleaning teams, whose contributions were key to the optimal development of the day.
