The King Has Come and Will Come Again! - Genesis 49

As Jacob comes to the end of his life, he gathers his sons and speaks about the future of God’s covenant family. Genesis 49 is not merely a collection of blessings about twelve tribes; it is a prophecy pointing us to the coming King. Through Judah, God promises that a ruler will come whose scepter will never depart and whose reign will extend to the nations. This promise finds its ultimate fulfillment in Jesus Christ, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, who has conquered sin and death and now reigns forever. As we consider this passage, we will see that Christ is not only the King who brings us the blessings of God’s covenant, but the King who calls us to joyful allegiance and obedience. I pray you will come this Sunday prepared to worship, trust, and submit to the reign of the King whose kingdom will never end. Soli Deo Gloria!
