Dark Sides of Living in Denmark
Residents of Denmark surely generally don’t have a lot of regrets. The country has so many good things going for it. Telling just a few about them may tempt many to consider relocating to this country. Some of them are free and qualitative education, excellent social services, a low violent crime rate, health coverage, maternity and paternity leave, paid vacation, and just name it. However, there are two sides to a coin, as usual. Besides these juicy parts, there are dark sides to living in Denmark. They’ll prove to anyone looking from the outside that it’s not everything that glitters is gold. This video will give you 7 reasons not to move to Denmark. 7. Limited Housing Option For anyone moving to another country, securing a place to live is the first and most significant step towards settling in and establishing a new life in a foreign country. Denmark can never and is not an exemption in this case. Here, it's not just about finding a place to rest or having a roof over your head. It’s also about locating a home that fits your lifestyle and budget. While there’s no shortage of variety homes in this Nordic country, the options aren’t very open to everyone. It becomes more challenging for those who don’t understand Danish. Those living in and around Copenhagen can attest to the fact that most of the available homes in the country are a bit on the high side. Anyone coming from the US, the UK, and Canada, can attest to the fact that such homes are expensive. It’s crucial to understand the nuances of the Danish rental market while contemplating renting property in Denmark. It can be a bit puzzling for newcomers to learn that a security deposit and the first month's rent are a must before moving in. Navigating through the legal aspects of renting in the country is initially tough. 6. Not for Highly Ambitious People If you are a highly ambitious person, Denmark is definitely not for you. Another one of the dark sides of living in Denmark is that it’s not for anyone highly people. Being an egalitarian society, no one is seen or recognised as being better than anyone else in the country. It’s in their national character that no Dane is more Dane than another Dane in Denmark. This is involved in the whole concept called the Gentile Logan, which basically means that the country will not be conducive for any overachiever, over-ambitious people. Such people might either be put in check or lose some of their motivation. We need to put it right at this moment that this doesn’t mean that society is encouraging indolence and slothfulness; it only means that you have to understand what the concept of TEAM really means, namely “Together Each Achieve More.” So you can be ambitious here in Denmark; overambitious is what has no place. If you like you might call it one of the dark sides of living in Denmark. 5. Cold and Damp Weather Another dark side of living in Denmark is that the weather conditions in the country can be cold and damp. The numb climate with a long and dark winter is common, often accompanied by a cold summer. This can be tough for those of you watching from places with warmer climates. If you’re not a fan of such weather conditions, think twice before you venture into Denmark. You don’t want to joke with data from the Metrological Institute of Denmark. Data from the institute gives the annual rainfall in the country at 724 millimetres.
