PrecisionSRS 5: The Ultimate in SRS/SRT Hitches for Arborists & Tree Climbers!
This hitch is an SRS/SRT hitch, meaning it works on a stationary/single rope without a device such as a rope wrench to aid in alleviating tension in the coil and adjustability sections of the hitch. This is probably the most complex hitch that I have ever designed and it uses the primary form from the PrecisionSRS 3 and 4 hitches and it is then customized and tied in such a way that it incorporates an aluminum anchor ring. The ring and the "ring" formed by the one hitch leg are sandwiched together with the rope between them, resulting in dialed in friction management, replicating what a rope wrench does in the adjustability section (the second stage below the coil). Be sure to make sure that this hitch is dressed and set to perfection before testing it. You want everything to be nice and snug aroudn the rope and you want to remove as much slack as you can before weighting it. After weighting it, you may find that you need to remove more slack! Test it out low and slow so that you can be sure it doesn't jam on you (this would usually occur from over tightening). Work the hitch up and down the rope wtih your hands until it moves freely before climbing on it.The "ring" formed by the hitch leg should be slightly bigger than the size as the ID (interior diameter) and slightly smaller than the OD (outer diameter) of the aluminum ring. In some cases, depending on the rope diameter used, friction can be managed by adjusting the "ring" to a size greater or smaller than I've recommended. I recommend using the SKIB method to form the eyes, although this isn't required for good functionality. I recommend using a 6 foot long length of hitch cord for this if using SKIB and a 7 foot long length of hitch cord for poacher's knots and bends to form eyes/a loop and for SKIB where the hitch cord diameter is 9mm or greater.
