To attach cords, use matching, invisible or decorative embroidery thread. 2. Insert the cording or tape from the front of the foot into the eyelet-type guide and pull it through the front hole, underneath and to the back of the sewing foot. 3. Engage the IDT (if available on your machine). 4. Select stitch, i.e. zigzag, blind hem or decorative. Sew the design by following the pre- marked design lines. Or, sew random lines and waves for a decorative textured effect. TIP: Try several smaller cords and yarns, twist them together to create texture and combine colors. The braiding foot (also known as couching or cording foot) is a specialty foot that fits in place of the standard foot. It’s used to attach decorative trim such as braid, cord, piping, yarn, and ribbon to fabric. The hole located in the top of the foot allows the trim to be threaded through the top and then under the foot. This standard sized hole allows for trims of up to 5mm in width, but some feet allow for size adjustments which makes working with different widths of trim easier. Braiding Foot The foot is easy to use and works with straight, zigzag and decorative stitches. Let’s take a look at the braiding foot in action. The braiding foot is one of many types of feet used in couching, which is a form of decorative embellishment, where a length of braid, cord, piping, ribbon, thread, trim or yarn is couched or stitched over to attach it to a fabric project. This foot may also be called by different names, such as couching/braiding foot or braiding/cording foot depending on the sewing machine maker. Couching is actually a technique where the thread encases the embellishment by floating lightly over the embellishment without piercing the decoration. The braiding foot is used specifically to attach braid as an embellishment to a project. The foot has a hole in the top of the foot, allowing the braid to be threaded from the top of the foot and passed under the foot. Some braiding feet are adjustable for the size of the braid, having an adjustable guide that is moved to accommodate the width of the braid by loosening a screw and moving the guide. The braiding feet that have just a hole in the top of the foot, cannot accommodate braid larger than the size of the opening, since the opening cannot be adjusted. The type of stitch used is usually a straight stitch, zigzag or decorative stitch depending upon the type of embellishment that is being sewn. Braid is generally sewn to the fabric with a stitch right down the center of the braid. YT link : / stitchswears. . Insta link : / stitchandswear fb page : / the.shanti.s. . Linkedin: / stit. .
