The feared nationwide unrest linked to the anti-illegal immigration protests on 30 June did not materialise, with police preventing large-scale violence. However, isolated incidents of intimidation, assaults and damage to property were reported, raising fresh concerns about the safety of spaza shops and the communities they serve.  Presenter John Maytham is an actor and author-turned-talk radio veteran and seasoned journalist.
