L'Afrique et le franc CFA : rencontre publique avec Kako Nubukpo

The Jean-Jaurès Foundation hosted Kako Nubukpo for a public debate on the essay he co-edited, Freeing Africa from Monetary Servitude: Who Benefits from the CFA Franc? (La Dispute, 2016). If currency is considered an attribute of sovereignty, the CFA franc remains the currency of fifteen West and Central African states, raising questions. Created in 1945 as the "franc of the French colonies in Africa," it is now pegged to the euro. Given its use in several African states, do the economies of these countries not remain under the control of a dual system of French and European influence?
