Before entering fashion, he briefly studied art history at New York University and later architecture at Parsons School of Design. However, his true passion for style pushed him toward the fashion world. Ford’s career took off when he moved to Europe and joined Gucci in 1990. At that time, Gucci was struggling, losing relevance and direction. Through bold creativity, glamorous designs, and a provocative marketing style, Ford transformed the brand. By 1994, he became Creative Director, leading Gucci to a massive revival and turning it into one of the most desirable luxury houses of the 1990s and early 2000s. In 2000, Gucci acquired Yves Saint Laurent, and Ford became Creative Director of YSL as well. His work often sparked controversy, especially at YSL, but it undeniably brought attention and renewed interest to the brand. Despite enormous success, Ford left the Gucci Group in 2004 after disagreements with management regarding creative control. Soon after, in 2005, he launched his own label, TOM FORD, starting with menswear, beauty products, and accessories.
