David Mocatta's original station building was designed in a standardised modular design however was demolished in 1985. In 1846 when the London and Brighton Railway merged with others to become the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway which also included the opening of the line to Horsham via Crawley now known as the Arun Valley Line Electrification here dates from 1932 / 1933 although there was a one time connection to East Grinstead which was never electrified which was used by Steam trains until 1964 then Class 205 Thumpers however that ceased when the line to East Grinstead was closed in 1967. A former engine shed opened in 1848 was located to the west of the station however closed in 1909 which resulted in an enlargement of the station itself and a new depot. The depot opened in 1911 although would close in 1964 The station has had up to 5 accidents with the first two behind minor with one in 1858 when an engine collided with passenger carriages whilst 5 years later in 1863 a excursion train hit the buffer stops. However the next 2 were fatal with one in December 1868 when 2 staff workers died during a naphtha explosion in a Truck. Another took place in 1923 when a 23 year old Frederick Harmer whilst working slipped from the boarding that covered the wires and fell onto the buffer of a wagon but sadly was fatally crushed. 10 years later in 1933 another incident took place when an electric train ran into the back of a steam freight train that was waiting at a signal box fortunately no lives were lost however 2 being the driver of the electric train and the guard of the freighter were both seriously injured. Today there are 5 Platforms in total with Platforms 1 and 3 used by Southern services to and from Portsmouth Harbour and Bognor Regis which join up or divide at Horsham and Thameslink services to and from Horsham which mainly originate from Peterborough via London Bridge and Stevenage. To the south of Three Bridges is Thameslinks Three Bridges Tl Depot as well as the lines control centre which took over control of the Brighton Main Line by 2020. The new Thameslink depot itself was built for the new Class 700 Desiros opened in October 2015 which it wasn't until August 2017 when the Class 700s finally replaced the Class 319s which had worked on Thameslink since 1988. Platform 2 is bi-directional which can be used by through services although used by terminating Thameslink services to and from Bedford via Redhill. Platforms 4 and 5 are used by Thameslink services to and from Brighton originating from Bedford and Cambridge however Southern services to and from Littlehampton via Hove, Eastbourne and Ore via Lewes and along with Gatwick Express services to and from London Victoria and Brighton which nowadays mainly call at Haywards Heath.
