The acronym “SPDA” stands for Lightning Protection System. This system serves to reduce the risk to life caused by lightning, as well as protect the physical integrity of large structures and buildings. The SPDA's function is to capture, conduct, and dissipate the energy generated by lightning into the ground, thus preventing damage to equipment and the structures themselves. ✅ What is SPDA Capture? The Lightning Protection System (LPS) is a set of components installed on top of protected structures, responsible for receiving the lightning strike and directing it to the other subsystems until its dissipation into the ground. ✅ What are Down Conductors in an LPS? The down conductor subsystem is a specific number of external, structural, or natural conductors that connect the lightning strike to the grounding system and provide a path of least resistance for the lightning strike. ✅ What is Grounding in an LPS? The grounding subsystem is the installation carried out underground, responsible for dissipating the energy of the lightning strike into the earth, in order to protect living beings against dangerous surface voltages. ✅ What is Continuity Measurement in an LPS? In this test, we evaluate the physical integrity of the system, the existence of loops, and the reliability of electrical continuity, which, according to the standard, must be less than or equal to 200 mΩ (milliohms). For the test, a "milliohmmeter" instrument with 4 terminals and operation by the Kelvin bridge method is used, as specified in Annex F of NBR5419/2015 part 3.
