LANI MISALUCHA - ANAK - 1998 ASIA SONG FESTIVAL
Danny Tan's Throwback #68 Ms. LANI MISALUCHA performs an edited version of my arrangement of ANAK - originally performed by Gary Valenciano - at the 1998 Asia Song Philippines. She won the Best Interpreter Award for her performance of ANAK and Jungee Marcelo's song entry (1st Runner Up). The Philippines dominated Asia Song Festival's Best Interpreter Category, winning in 1996 (Ima Castro), 1997 (Jaya), 1998 (Lani Misalucha) and 1999 (Dessa - Trina Belamide's song entry). Side Story: At the 2nd Asia Song Festival 1997 in Hong Kong, I was approached by the country coordinator of Indonesia during the Symposium - a side event of the Festival of which I was the Philippine country coordinator in 1997 & 1999 - asking me why I did not attend the 1996 Asia Song Festival in Bali, Indonesia. He informed me that he specifically requested Mr. Ramon Chuaying's record label to send me as the Philippine coordinator. I told him that I never received any invitation from the said record label and that I missed the chance of a lifetime to visit the world famous Bali. To show his sincerity, the Indonesian coordinator gifted me with a Bali Asia Song Festival wristwatch, one of their giveaways in 1996. Up to this day I am still wondering why the invitation was never extended to me. 1998 ASIA SONG FESTIVAL PHILIPPINES Hosts: Francis Magalona and JAYA Musical Director: Lorrie Ilustre Writer: Agnes Caballa Executive Producer: Bang U.
