FLYING TO AUSTRALIA DURING THE PANDEMIC! When the borders are closed

We booked flights Milan to Sydney back way back in July! Without being able to check in online, we turned up at Milan airport without knowing if we could even board the plane! Currently the country is closed to every country, except it's citizens and permanent residents (that's us!). But even these people are struggling to get in the country! We travelled a total of 30 hours from dropping off our van in Milan to arriving to our quarantine hotel in Sydney!
