Whatever Happened to The Iron Duke Hotel - Sydney's Hardest Pub

Formerly the 1980s headquarters of notorious gangster Neddy Smith and a hub for corrupt police dealings, Alexandria's Iron Duke Hotel was a gritty "bloodhouse" steeped in genuine underworld violence. By the late 90s, under the ownership of entrepreneur Mark Alexander-Erber, this dangerous atmosphere made it the perfect epicenter for the Sydney Hardcore scene, hosting chaotic shows for international heavyweights like Strife and local legends like Toe To Toe. The venue remains legendary for merging its terrifying criminal legacy with the raw, aggressive energy of punk culture.
