Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum affirmed that the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) will remain in effect until 2036, despite the U.S. government's rejection of an automatic 16-year extension. The president explained that the mechanism established within the agreement itself remains operational while reviews and negotiations continue among the three countries. Sheinbaum stated that Mexico will maintain dialogue with the United States and Canada to preserve regional trade stability and provide certainty for investments. For his part, Economy Secretary Marcelo Ebrard reiterated that the treaty remains in effect until 2036 and that, in accordance with the agreed-upon provisions, it will be subject to periodic reviews in the coming years.
