In the early 1950s, three ES85 coaches were converted into special control cars for Munich suburban service to Dachau at WMD in Donauwörth and incorporated into the fleet as ESG 01-03. The luggage compartment was significantly enlarged, and two additional sliding doors were added to the side walls. Initially, the ESG control cars were coupled to three-axle Prussian compartment coaches, and shortly thereafter also to three-axle converted coaches. E44 locomotives were used as the haulers. Other locomotives were also used as substitutes, though without the control function. From 1957 onward, when enough center-entrance control cars were available for the Dachau line, the three cars were transferred to the Traunstein-Ruhpolding line. There, they were used together with 3yg converted coaches in local service. After 1967, the carriages were transferred to the Karlsruhe Railway Division in southern Baden and operated on routes including Basel – Lörrach – Zell (Wiesental). Following these services as regular half-baggage cars, the carriages were converted into construction train carriages and remained in service until the mid-1980s.
