M/S Stråssa, a wreckdive in Narvik

M/S Stråssa went from Narvik on the 7.th april 1740, but after some hours sailing they had some problems onboard they needed to solve back i Narvik. The ship sailed back and on the 9th of april 1940, Germany captured Norway at the beginning of world War II. The german navals captured Stråssa among several other cargoship in Narvik harbour and forbidd them to sail. The second and third battle at sea in Narvik, most of the ships sunk or got damage by torpedo`s and granates. None hit the swedish cargoship Stråssa, fully loaded with iron-ore. A month later, at the 5th of May, someone, memebers of the ship or germans, did a sabotage onboard. A valve was opened og slowly filled the ship with sea-water. The germans blow during the WW2, all the mast and buildings onboard all the sunken ships, to make sure of free sailingdepth for ships. MS Stråssa was one of 4 cargoship who didn`t be salvage og destroyed during or after WW2. Stråssa is a excellent shallow wreckdive, but strong tidecurrent occure every 4th hour. A dive at wintertime is to prefer due to excellent visibility, like this dive. Enjoy my dive
