Making the Switch to Water-Based Paints: How to Paint over Oil-Based Woodwork

If you want to switch to a water-based paint system but the previous coat was done in oil-based paint, there are a few things you need to do first. First, you'll want to give the surface a good clean to remove any dirt, grime, or old paint that might be lurking around. Once it's all spick and span, you'll need to sand it down a bit to give the new paint something to grip onto.
