The Poço da Ribeira do Ferreiro (also known locally as the Poço da Alagoinha) is a monumental, spectacular rock amphitheater, considered one of the most beautiful natural wonders not only in the Azores but also in all of Europe. At the heart of this place is a massive, vertical cliff face, several hundred meters high, entirely covered in a dense, almost unreal layer of lush green moss, endemic ferns, and native Macaronesian vegetation (laurel forest). From a dozen to over twenty waterfalls cascade simultaneously from this gigantic, green wall (the number depends on the intensity of the preceding rainfall). All these streams of water flow at the foot of the cliff into a crystal-clear, almost still lake, whose surface perfectly reflects the entire landscape.
