Kamagaya Daibutsu Station is a station on the Keisei Electric Railway Matsudo Line located in Kamagaya 1-chome, Kamagaya City, Chiba Prefecture. As the station name suggests, the historic “Kamagaya Daibutsu” (Great Buddha of Kamagaya) stands right next to the station. Basic Information and Features of the Station ・Line: Keisei Electric Railway Matsudo Line (formerly the Shin-Keisei Electric Railway Shin-Keisei Line; the line name was changed following the merger in April 2025) ・Selection: It has been selected as one of the “100 Best Stations in the Kanto Region” for its history and distinctive features. Origin of the Station Name: “Kamagaya Daibutsu” ・The Only One in Japan: It is the only station in Japan with “Daibutsu” (Great Buddha) in its name, making it a very rare station. ・Access: Located along Kinoshita Kaido (within the Daibutsu Cemetery), a 1-minute walk from the North Exit. ・Features: A bronze statue of Shakyamuni Buddha, erected in 1776 during the Edo period, standing 1.8 meters tall (2.3 meters including the pedestal). Among the statues referred to as “Great Buddhas” in Japan, it is said to be “Japan’s smallest Great Buddha” and is deeply cherished by local residents.
