ENFERMEDAD DE SJÖGREN

Sjögren's syndrome is a systemic autoimmune disease characterized by lymphocytic infiltration of exocrine glands, especially salivary and lacrimal glands, leading to xerostomia and xerophthalmia. According to the NEJM review (2017), it is recognized as a heterogeneous disorder with mucocutaneous, articular, and organ manifestations, as well as an increased risk of non-Hodgkin lymphoma, particularly MALT lymphoma. In this video, we review: 🧬 Modern pathophysiology: abnormal B-cell activation, autoantibodies (anti-Ro/SSA and anti-La/SSB), cytokine production, and progressive glandular damage. 👁️ Glandular manifestations: dry eye, keratoconjunctivitis sicca, dry mouth, and parotid enlargement. 🫀 Extraglandular manifestations: arthralgia, Raynaud's phenomenon, pulmonary, renal, and neurological involvement. 🧪 Diagnosis according to current criteria: specific autoantibodies, minor salivary gland biopsy, and lacrimal/salivary function tests. 💊 Treatment: symptomatic management of dryness, immunomodulation in systemic disease, and monitoring for lymphoma risk. “Medicine as you've never been taught it before.” 💙 Subscribe to Medicursos, the course tailored just for you. #Sjogren #Rheumatology #NEJM #Autoantibodies #Medicourses #Autoimmunity #Sicca #MALTlymphoma #InternalMedicine Check out my new medical course page: https://medicursos.thinkific.com Become a member of this channel to enjoy exclusive benefits:    / @doctorjuanefreng   0:00 Introduction Epidemiology Etiology Pathophysiology Clinical Presentation Diagnosis Treatment Summary #science #medicine #student #physiology #enarm #usmle #amboss #ambossmed #study #anatomy #pathology Remember that this channel does not constitute medical advice.
