From the Bay of Bengal in the east to the Arabian Sea in the west, hundreds of forts, palaces, mansions, and stepwells belonging to the Koitur rulers can still be seen in the Satpura mountain range. These ancient Koitur heritages still tell the stories of the valor, bravery, and grandeur of their renowned kings and emperors. Unfortunately, the descendants of the Koitur community, whose past was so glorious and valiant, still remain ignorant of who they are and what their status was. The present and future of the Koitur descendants appear bleak. Today, when the Koiturs see their miserable condition and failures, the words spoken by the non-Muslims appear to them to be true, and they cannot even believe their ancient glorious history. It's not a long time ago; in just 400-500 years of turmoil, the owner of this Gondwana land has become a beggar, and a few beggars, having become our masters, are forcing us to live a life of slavery. Today, we will tell you about Asirgarh Fort, its ancient cultural, spiritual, and historical significance, and how it got its name. This fort is located in the high and inaccessible Satpura hills of Ghodadongri tehsil in the northeastern part of Betul district, Madhya Pradesh. The fort's antiquity is linked to the development of human civilization, and it has been a reigning center of the Koya Punemi culture. From here, the Koiturs governed and controlled the entire Gondwana region. Asirgarh Fort is located in Betul district, approximately 180 kilometers southeast of Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh. One can reach Bhaura, located 130 kilometers south of Bhopal on the Bhopal-Nagpur Highway via Hoshangabad and Itarsi. From Bhaura town, one can turn left and head east, crossing the Tawa River to reach Asirgarh Fort. Asirgarh is approximately 50 kilometers from Bhaura town, and can be easily reached via Sataldehi, Chopna, and Rampur, reaching Mankadhana village near Asirgarh Fort. This ancient fort is situated on a drum-shaped hill in the Satpura mountain range, east of Mankadhana village. This fort is located approximately 30 kilometers southwest of Panchmarhi, where there is no road access. The distance from Panchmarhi to Asirgarh Fort can be covered on foot. The plains below this fort are called "Heron Valley" which falls under the Bori Wildlife Sanctuary which is a part of the Panchmarhi Biosphere Reserve. This is a protected area by the Forest Department where transportation facilities are minimal. People coming from Sarani or Betul on the south side can reach Asirgarh Fort by travelling approximately 20 km north from Bagdona on the Baretha Sarani road via Nadia Ghat, Amthana and Nutan Danga.
