The Truth Behind the A-60: The USSR’s Experimental Flying Laser Lab

This video explores the development, design, and testing of the Soviet Beriev A-60 airborne laser laboratory, built to counter high-altitude reconnaissance balloons and later adapted for satellite-dazzling experiments. Drawing on archival material and surviving technical accounts, it explains how the system worked and why it was never a viable operational weapon. Note: only anecdotal information about the A-60 is in circulation in the West. I have therefore inferred capabilities from other similar US programmes and from my own experience with lasers. Please excuse my errors! Also, because only a handful of photographs and diagrams of the A-60 exist, the visuals in this video are necessarily limited, making the presentation more technical and text-driven than usual.
