Sewing machine and start up materials distribution exercise at Liphupwe School in Dedza district

Liphupwe Primary School Mother Group’s Secretary, Matilda Mafukeni, explains that some girls at the school have been missing lessons due to menstruation because they lack proper sanitary pads. Often, they resort to folding rags from their clothing as a makeshift solution. Mafukeni has commended YICOD for providing the school with a sewing machine and start-up materials, which enable the mother group to make reusable sanitary pads and distribute them to girls in need. Twelve-year-old Anisha Maxwell, who is in Standard 8 and aspires to become a nurse, has requested YICOD to expand this initiative to other schools within Dedza district to help more girls and support their education through improved menstrual hygiene. Liphupwe Primary School is located in the Kanyenda Education Zone, Dedza District.
