Vietnam Veterans Remember: Defending my homeland of South Vietnam
“My family assumed I was killed on the battlefield.” In this compelling video, Nguyen Van Be, (Field Medic, Republic of Vietnam Military, 1969–1975) describes his life of defending his homeland of South Vietnam, becoming a prisoner of war and returning home to discover his family had fled Vietnam. After relocating to Australia in 1996, he credits his family's safety and success to the Australian government and the peaceful society it upholds. 2023 marks the 50th anniversary of the end of Australia’s involvement in the Vietnam War. These heartbreaking and inspiring stories remind us of the sacrifices veterans make for their country.
