Practiced for hundreds of years in the Ruginoasa commune (Iași county), Malanca marks the passing of the years through a symbolic confrontation between two camps of young people (“deleni” and “văleni”), masked and armed with traditional clubs, in a ritual battle that signifies the expulsion of evil spirits and the calling of abundance in the new year.
