Value Addition on #Mondia Whitei,#Mukombero to Produce Juice, Wine, Tea and wool or Cotton

A researcher from Kenya Forestry Research Institute(KEFRI), Reuben Shanda, from Malava, who is also a Farmer is trying to add value to Mondia Whitei, popularly known as Mukombero. Shanda is now using the roots from Mukombero to produce Mukombero Powder, then utilizes the Mukombero Powder to make Juice and Wine and to also extract cotton or wool from the seed pods. Already, wine from Mukombero has been tested at the Government chemist and given a clean Bill of Health having almost 11% Alcohol content. Shanda says Farmers who may embark of Mukombero Farming can earn alot of money. At the same time, a Chef at Kakamega Golf Hotel, Chef Omoko has come with an innovation to Cook Mukombero tea. The Tea comes either as black tea or you can drink with milk. Chef Omoko says the tea is ideal for those who may not want to chew Mukombero on the streets, getting all benefits from the tea. He says Mukombero tea when used regularly can relieve stress and depression, it can help those who face challenges in urinating and has benefits to both men and especially expectant mothers. For Libido, Chef Omoko says that there are two types of Mukombero, one is Black in Color and the other one is white.
