Avenida Pery Ronchetti, Vila São Pedro e Vila Esperança, São Bernardo do Campo

Pery Ronchetti Avenue is one of the avenues that provides access to Vila São Pedro; in addition to it, there are Rua dos Vianas and Luiz Pequini. Pery Ronchetti Avenue was built alongside the Saracantan Stream, which originates in Vila São Pedro. As it is the newest of the three access roads, it doesn't have much commerce; however, there is the Da-vó Supermarket, which is well-known in the area. Vila São Pedro is a relatively new neighborhood in São Bernardo do Campo. It was founded on June 29, 1987, on Saint Peter's Day, which gave the community its name. Initially, everything was hills and environmental preservation areas, but as there were many people in the city in need of housing, they occupied land belonging to the City Hall and built a camp, where about 60 people came to live, thus beginning the formation of the Vila. In the 1980s, things were quite complicated. The area lacked infrastructure such as running water, electricity, garbage collection, and sewage collection, and to catch a bus, it was necessary to go to Avenida Luiz Pequini. Soon after the formation of the encampment, people from various regions of the country moved there, building shacks and starting the formation of a "favela" (slum). The area also received no attention from the public authorities, which attracted criminals who found refuge there. This was the "Bang-Bang" period of Vila São Pedro, where many things were resolved like in the Wild West. Over the years, the people who lived in that "favela" began to fight for a better neighborhood. There was resistance from the City Hall, but little by little the residents achieved their goals, such as: piped water, sewage collection, garbage collection, electricity, paved streets, schools, and recently, in the last 10 years, they obtained an Emergency Care Unit (UPA), as well as a Basic Health Unit (UBS), and also the CEU Regina Rocco, an educational center. Thus, the dangerous "favela" of the 80s became a neighborhood like any other in the city. Today, thanks to the efforts of the first residents, Vila São Pedro has become a relatively good place to live. The neighborhood has a wide network of shops where you can find everything, eliminating the need to go to the city center. There are also many bus lines and easy car access to both the city center and the neighboring city of Santo André and the Via Anchieta highway. For these reasons, many people have chosen to live there; the neighborhood now has 67,000 inhabitants, but the struggle continues! The next achievement for the population will be obtaining the deeds to their properties, thus completing the entire legalization process for the area with the City Hall.
