Protecting the Environment in Armed Conflict

The academic lecture on "Protecting the Environment in Armed Conflict" covers the early beginning of the topic in the framework of ‪@UNEP‬ and the most recent 2024 #UNEA-6 Resolution 6/12: “Resolution on environmental assistance and recovery in areas affected by armed conflicts“ as well as the 2020 Guidelines on the Protection of the Natural Environment in Armed Conflict by the ‪@ICRC‬ and the 2022 Principles on protection of the environment in relation to armed conflicts by the International Law Commission of the United Nations. It also deals with the accompanying international criminal law at the International Criminal Court, particularly Art. 8 (2) (b) (iv) of the Rome Statute as well as in EU law, particularly the ‪@europeanparliament‬ legislative resolution of 27 February 2024 on the proposal for a directive of the European Parliament and of the Council of the European Union on the protection of the environment through criminal law and replacing Directive 2008/99/EC. The academic lecture was held by Prof. Dr. Andree Kirchner, Managing Partner / CEO of the Hugo Grotius gGmbH and professor of international law at the 🇩🇪 University of Applied Sciences Bremerhaven.
