In an exclusive interview with Swiss Romande Television (TSR), Tunisian President Habib Bourguiba denounces French colonialism. Following the Bizerte tragedy, a military base that remained under French control despite the country's independence in 1956 and which resulted in thousands of deaths, President Bourguiba granted an interview to special correspondents for the TSR program "Continents sans visa" (Continents Without Visas). He believes this tragedy could have been avoided if General de Gaulle and France had respected Tunisia's sovereignty and abandoned their old imperialist tendencies. This crisis occurred within the context of the Algerian War and the decolonization process.
